16 People On Things They Couldn't Believe About America Until They Moved Here

I found this article called "16 People On Things They Couldn't Believe About America Until They Moved Here." It was an interesting read because my wife and I have had similar findings to these people. For all the Brazilians or foreigners who go to America maybe you notice these things as well. Give it a read!

Here is the Article

Duolingo

I recently discovered a great website that helps you learn a new language. It is called Duolingo.

Here is the link: http://www.duolingo.com

You are connected with a community of people who can take lessons in one of the languages that duolingo offers and learn as a community. It has a rewards system, and is very easy to access and to use.

I have been using this at work, and has already helped me improve my vocabulary and grammar. I wanted to recommend this here for all you travelers who are interested in immersing themselves into another language before they go abroad. Good Luck!

Buying Plane Tickets for an International Trip

If the name on your passport and the name on your green card don't match and you don't have time to change your name on your passport, or are not able to: It is recommended that you buy your plane tickets with the name on your PASSPORT.

This is important because if you are leaving the USA, the passport is your official travel document when your going into other countries, and the airlines will match your tickets with your passport. When you are coming back to the USA it is possible you will encounter problems with the immigration officer with the Green Card and Passport mismatch, because your Green Card is your authoritative document to let you back in. However, that is why I would always bring your Marriage Certificate so if the Immigration officer questions you on your re-entry, you have proof of a name change. But when they scan your green card it will show the officer the name change anyways, so it shouldn't even be an issue.

If you do have the time to contact your embassy and can see what you are able to do to update the name, that is recommended as well.

Vou ficando por aqui. Próxima postagem: HUSBAND'S TURN! YAY!

xxoo

Farewell Lou Reed

One of my favorite musicians died last week, October 28th 2013. I just wanted to share some thoughts about him.

My very first rock concert that I went to was a Lou Reed concert at the the Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle when  I was a young teenager. How amazing is that? One of the most influential rock artists that inspired a lot of the bands I have loved over the years was my very first concert experience. He had on a bright shiny jacket and opened with one of my favorite songs "Sweet Jane." Needless to say I became a huge fan after this. I started listening to the banana album of Velvet Underground, and discovered some of the most beautifully written songs. "Pale Blue Eyes, " "Sunday Morning,"  "Oh! Sweet Nuthin". Then there is many more all around great rock songs.

His music will always be in my life and so I am really sad to see him go. Thanks to him for influencing a lot of my music choices as well. I will leave you with this pleasingly beautiful song:
